Description
Leheria is a traditional style of tie dye practiced in Rajasthan, India that results in brightly colored cloth with distinctive diagonal wave like patterns which is where the name comes from.. wave is called a “leher” in Rajasthani.
It’s an intriguing resist dye technique in which a thin cloth is folded/rolled diagonally from one end and then tied at regular intervals before dyeing to get stunning wave like patterns in myriad colors.
The same technique when repeated from the other end after removing the resist of first lehriya created and then re-rolled in opposite direction results in a grid like diagonal pattern called “mothra”. This technique forms small lentil sized u dyes areas at equal intervals and hence is called mothra, “moth” being lentil in Rajasthani.
